Martine has returned recently from West Africa, having spent 3 months on the Global Ebola Response Team with UN Mission for Ebola Emergency Response producing a photographic record of the incident.

Martine worked in Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea, where the first case was isolated in Dec 2013, and she took us on a journey with her photographs which helped record the world’s response to the outbreak. She also talked about the long-term consequences of the outbreak which may be greater than from the direct impacts of illness and deaths.  Children missing out on education, many children now orphaned, people ostracised because of their relationships with victims, and survivors and villagers losing their jobs will have impacts that will be felt for many years to come.
Martine said it was a rewarding, but sometimes harrowing experience, and she was grateful to return home at the completion of the work.
On behalf of members and guests, Terry thanked Martine for her fascinating and heartfelt presentation.
